Privacy Policy

Overview

CRT Camera is an iPhone app for photographing CRT televisions and monitors. It runs entirely on your device. It has no accounts, no server of its own, and no way to send your photographs anywhere.

This policy covers the CRT Camera app and the pages at scanlines.app/crt-camera/. It does not cover the Scanlines social platform, which is a separate product with its own accounts and its own privacy policy.

Information CRT Camera does not collect

The app does not collect, store or transmit any of the following:

• Names, email addresses, usernames or passwords.
• Account or profile information — there are no accounts.
• Device identifiers, advertising identifiers or fingerprinting signals.
• Location data.
• Contacts, calendars, health data or files outside the app.
• Your photographs, the live camera preview, or any other visual content.
• Usage analytics, event logs or crash reports sent to us.

There is no sign-up step and no optional data-sharing setting, because there is nothing to share.

Camera access

CRT Camera asks for access to your camera when you first use it. This access is used for exactly two things: showing the live preview, and taking the photograph when you press the shutter.

The camera feed is not recorded, not buffered for later, and not sent off the device. It exists only while the app is showing you a preview or capturing an image. If you deny camera access, the app cannot function; you can grant it later in Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → CRT Camera.

Photo Library access

The app does not ask for Photo Library access at launch. It asks the first time you save a photograph.

The permission requested is add-only access. That means the app can write a new photograph into your library and nothing more — it cannot read, browse, search or delete the photos that are already there, and it never sees the rest of your library.

You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → CRT Camera. If you decline, the app still works; you simply will not be able to save captures until you allow it.

On-device processing

All image processing happens on your iPhone. Matching the shutter to a refresh rate, fine-tuning the exposure, and producing the final HEIC or JPEG are all done locally by the device.

Once a photograph is saved, it is an ordinary file in your Photo library and it belongs to you. If you later share it — using the iOS share sheet, a messaging app, iCloud Photos or anything else — that is an action you take through iOS, and the service you send it to handles it under its own terms. The app itself does not initiate any transfer.

Analytics, tracking and advertising

CRT Camera contains no advertising SDKs and no third-party analytics SDKs. It does not build a profile of you, does not track you across apps or websites, and does not use the App Tracking Transparency framework, because there is no tracking to ask permission for.

There are no advertisements in the app, and no data is sold or shared with data brokers.

Network and cloud services

The app does not operate a photo-processing server, a backend account system or cloud storage. Photographs are never uploaded.

This website. The pages at scanlines.app/crt-camera/ are static files. They set no cookies, load no third-party fonts or scripts, and run no analytics. As with any website, the hosting provider that serves these pages may keep standard server request logs — for example the requested address, timestamp, IP address and browser user-agent — for security and operational purposes. That is ordinary web hosting, and it is unrelated to the app, which does not contact this website at all.

Apple services and diagnostics

Distribution through the App Store involves Apple. Apple may independently process App Store activity — such as downloads, ratings and reviews — and, if you have chosen to share them, device diagnostics and crash data. Those services are operated and controlled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy.

Anything Apple processes in that way is not data collected by CRT Camera. Where Apple provides us with aggregate App Store statistics, they are aggregate figures produced by Apple, not information gathered by the app on your device. You can review and change what you share with Apple in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

Children's privacy

CRT Camera is a general-purpose camera utility and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone, of any age: there are no accounts, no profiles, no messaging and no data collection of any kind.

Because nothing is collected, there is no children's data for us to access, correct or delete. If you have a question about this, please get in touch using the address below.

Changes to this policy

If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and change the effective date at the top. Material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.

The version published at this address is always the current one.
